When you hear the word 'style' what comes to mind? The way something or someone is portrayed…expressed. The 'Style' channel.

How important would you say having a distinct style is? As important as you make it. Depends on who it is.

How much of Nigerian culture would you say you incorporate into your basic style?

I have a fair amount of jewelry that I do wear most times. I tie scarves sometimes. The few times that I do braid my hair I guess. I have a wrapper that I do wear around the house a lot. I roll my eyes and suck my teeth and say 'ode!' I have some Nigerian outfits but I hardly wear them...i really don't go to a lot of Nigerian-outfit-conducive functions. But I listen to and own a good amount of Nigerian music, in fact any Nigerian music you give me I'm there. Sometimes I wanna 'price' things at the store. And let's not even talk about dancing; yeah I hold it down on the Nigerian dance. Put easy, if you hang around me long enough you will KNOW that I am Nigerian, one way or the other.

How would you describe how much you spend on clothing, accessories, grooming, and other items that you incorporate to get your style?

I'm a pretty spendthrift type person, so I don't spend a lot on clothes or shoes. I hardly spend any on my hair because I wear it natural most times and if I did want to get it done…I'll either do it myself or get someone to do it for free. The one thing I'd say I splurge on would probably be watches, but even then compared to what a lot of people do spend it's really not much. Soo bottom-line I'm cheap but I get what I want.

What are influences on your general style?
The current trends definitely influence the types of items I can find easy to buy. My MOOD! The people I'm around sometimes are factors on how much of my true style I express. And the activities I'm heavily involved in also play a part: if I'm schooling, dancing, working, or just bumming a lot at a certain period.

Do you have any fashions 'secrets' or tips that you apply to your self? What is it?
I'm definitely big on being comfortable in whatever look that you're going for. But comfort doesn't mean that you should loose any kind personality that you could have. Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean you should do it too. If you're too afraid/uncomfortable to wear it out…or you can't figure out where to wear it to…get dressed up anyway, dance in your bathroom mirror, strike a pose and take pictures.

State a quote that you think describes or applies to your general style? "Do you!"
What kind of music do you listen to? What kind of music you got?
If you got to pick ONE decade you'd like to go back into style, which would it be? Hmmmm, 2000-2010 is definitely doing a good job of encompassing its preceding decades so I think it'll do just fine.
What do your friends say to you about your clothes, hair or accessories? LoL. Seeing that I have some very DIFFERENT groups of friends, it depends on what day they catch me. The following are possible statements
"that outfit is tight, I'm gonna do that too."
"for once you look nice, you should dress like this more often."
"wow Nk, you're always coming up with something different."
"what da hell is that in your hair?"
"don't tell me you're gonna wear that and follow me out. You're not going out with me looking like that."
And finally my favorite from my roommate "oh so you couldn't decide what you wanted to wear today huh? So you decided to put on all your clothes at once."

When it comes to your style, how do you want others to perceive you?
I could say I don't care how others perceive me…but I would say an accurate perception of me would be someone who likes to be creative, comfortable and friendly. As much as I try to do my own thing, I don't try too hard in the name of being different, but I also won't shy away too much from doing what I think is cool just because the majority doesn't think so. Also I'm not really big on people labeling my style...but I guess if you had to a good word would be diverse, because I have a lot of different influences on how I look. So if the above is included in anyone's perception of my style...that would be really nice. And if not, oh well.

Shoes, jackets, belts…

Ummm identify with? Hmmm there is a good amount of celebrities that I admire in regards to style: I have this almost decade long obsession with Kelis that won't go away…lol. Umm Ms. Jade, Erykah Badu, Pink, Res, the BlackEyed Peas crew…and the list goes on.

What is the first thing that you see when you look into your closet?
Jeans jeans and more and cotton shirts…baby of husband-beater tanks.. in that order I think.

What would you say are your favorite colors when it comes to your dressing?
Black, black, and black… if I can pair black with any other color and it looks hot then that color will be my favorite too. Grays are very predominant; when I do laundry, the grays usually make a whole wash load by themselves. I have a lot of tan/beige clothes too, so that's a close third. Oh and blue denim kicks ass too!

What is/are your favorite article(s) of clothing?
My black semi-fitted zipper hoodie sweatshirt, in fact any zipper hoodie I own. Hoodies rock!! Oh and loose yoga pants..yeah!! oh and don't forget husband-beaters, can't live without em!

More cheap stuff. All the music I could afford.

What type of jewelry expresses your style the best? Silver…I love silver jewelry. Big earrings in cool, and creative shapes. African/Nigerian inspired necklaces, earring and bracelets. Rock inspired bracelets. No glittery stuff 'diamond' or cubic zirconium stuff. Not a fan of gold.

How do you usually wear your hair? Curly, nappy, wavy or blown-out afro, cornrows, under a hat or scarf, or whatever other thing I can come up with.

Where would you go for an ideal date? Somewhere dancing. If' I think the guy is a really great dancer then to the altar right after.
You are set up to go on casual double date for Saturday night. What do you plan on wearing? Some nice fitting jeans, a top, loafers, a hoodie, big belt, large hoops…maybe a hat..oops scratch that, it depends on where we are going…but you get the idea.
